Dr. Sawsan Kheir
University of Haifa
Dr. Kheir was born and raised in the Druze village of Peki'in, Israel. She completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in psychology at the University of Haifa, earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees. She subsequently served as an educational psychologist with the Haifa Municipality for nearly a decade.
Currently, she is pursuing a dual doctoral degree at the School of Psychological Sciences at the University of Haifa and in the Study of Religions at Åbo Akademi University in Finland. In her academic capacity, she serves as a teaching fellow in the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies and leads a research team at the Haifa Laboratory for Religious Studies, where her work examines the intersection of religion and gender within the Druze community.
Her doctoral research investigates the contemporary religiosity of young adult Muslim and Druze university students in Israel. Her collected data has contributed to several scholarly publications, with additional findings under continued investigation. Her research interests include intercultural encounters and their impact on Arab-Jewish relations in Israel.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Dr. Kheir maintains interests in literature, writing, and running. She aspires to provide psychological support to children in refugee camps around the world.
