Roll Up Your Sleeves in Denver!
The GA is where good people do great deeds. While you’re in Colorado for the GA, spend time giving back to the community and contributing to the Mile High City's vitality.
The Day of Service is a local project during the 2011 General Assembly (GA) coordinated by Federation’s YAD Cares initiative. YAD Cares is the social action arm of Federation’s Young Adult Department (YAD), which seeks to provide young adults, ages 21-40, with opportunities for social activities, leadership development, volunteerism, and Federation affiliation through campaign participation and education. The Day of Service program runs from 8 am – 1 pm on Nov. 6.
The Day of Service is open to college students and young adults (ages 18-40) attending the General Assembly in Denver from November 6-8, 2011. The program is also open to all local community members between the ages of 18-40. Participants will conduct hands-on service projects benefiting approximately 20 different charities in the Jewish community and the greater Denver community at-large. Projects will be geared toward high-impact areas such as:
- Education
- Women and Families
- Senior Citizens
- The Environment
Federation is working in partnership with Metro Volunteers to coordinate the Day of Service. Since its inception in 1994, Metro Volunteers has served as the expert resource center on volunteerism in the metro Denver area by matching individuals and groups with meaningful and enriching volunteer experiences. Their mission is to mobilize and cultivate volunteers as a vital resource in our community. This is accomplished by offering capacity-building programs and services that allow volunteers to work hand-in-hand with nonprofit agencies to develop strong and vibrant communities.
Volunteerism and social action is an important component of the ancient Jewish values of tikkun olam (“repairing the world”) and chesed (“acts of loving kindness”). Although we only have a half-day, we encourage you to take advantage of this amazing opportunity to give back and to grow as leaders in your respective communities.
